Linda LeMar -  Ceramic Artist

During the creative process I am seeking the power of a moment. It is the emotion conveyed in the face of one of my figures, or the spirit of a landscape that I try to express. I think of my wall sculptures as mindscapes or visual poetry. I work in layers. Using terracotta paper clay, I build my surfaces in low relief and a plethora of textures. I enhance the surfaces using stains made from oxides, washes of underglaze, and fire each piece multiple times to achieve richness of color and depth. The dialogue that takes place during the creative process drives my work. With each piece I discover something new and different. The materials compel me to explore my inner and outer life. I draw from my experiences, emotions and passions.
